Privacy Policy

What screenshat does

screenshat captures full-page screenshots of public web pages. You give it a URL, the server renders the page at the sizes you pick, and you download the resulting PNG files. The iOS app and the web app at screenshat.pics share the same backend.

Data the service collects

• URLs you submit. Stored server-side as part of the capture job so the screenshots can be re-rendered, re-downloaded, and exported as a ZIP. URLs are stored with the job record and removed when the job is deleted.
• Screenshot files. The rendered PNGs are stored on the server until the job is deleted, or until they age out of server-side retention (currently around 30 days, subject to change).
• Your IP address. Used only for rate limiting and to deliver responses. Not sold, not shared with advertisers, and not linked to any marketing profile. Logs containing IPs rotate on the server and are not kept indefinitely.
• Optional access token. If you choose to sign in (currently only via the advanced connection panel in iOS Settings), a bearer token is stored locally in the iOS Keychain and sent with API requests so you can see your own job history. The token never leaves the device except as an Authorization header to the screenshat server.

Data the service does not collect

• No advertising identifiers. No IDFA, no IDFV use for tracking.
• No third-party analytics SDKs in the iOS app.
• No contacts, photos, microphone, or camera access. The Photo Library permission is used only to write screenshots you tap "Save" on; the app never reads your existing photos.
• No cross-app or cross-site behavioral tracking.

What is processed on your device vs. on the server

Page rendering, screenshot generation, and any optional vision analysis run on the screenshat server, not on your device. The URL you type and the rendered output travel over the network to and from the server. The iOS app itself does not analyse, modify, or transmit anything beyond what is required to submit a capture, poll its status, and download the result.

Sub-processors

• Hosting infrastructure. The screenshat backend runs on infrastructure operated under the data controller's account. No customer-funded third-party CDN sits in front of user-submitted URLs.
• Optional LLM providers (web app only). If the optional vision-analysis feature is enabled on the web app, the rendered screenshot is sent to the configured provider (one of OpenAI, Anthropic, Google) to produce the analysis text. This feature is opt-in per capture on the web app and is not invoked by the iOS app today.

Retention

You can delete any of your captures from the iOS History tab or via the web app. Server-side, deleted jobs and their PNGs are removed from primary storage on request. Server access logs (including IPs) rotate within a short window appropriate for operational debugging.

Children

screenshat is rated 4+ on the App Store and the service is not directed at children under 13. The service does not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has submitted data, email luke@lukesteuber.com and the data will be removed.

Your rights (EU/UK GDPR)

If you are in the EU or UK, you have the right to access, correct, erase, restrict, or object to the processing of your personal data, and to data portability. To exercise any of these rights, email luke@lukesteuber.com. A response will be sent within 30 days.

California Privacy Rights (CCPA / CPRA)

I do not sell or share personal information in any sense covered by the California Consumer Privacy Act or California Privacy Rights Act, and I do not engage in cross-context behavioural advertising. California residents have the right to know what personal information is collected, to delete it, and to opt out of any sale or share. Changes to this policy

This page may be updated as the service changes. Material changes will be reflected with a new effective date at the top. Continued use of screenshat after a change indicates acceptance of the updated policy.
